I am a cycle breaker
I weave self love into the fabric of my words
And they are the spells I cast, to unlock the way to healing for my ancestors that were imprisoned in subjugation, oppression and fear.
I am a cycle breaker
I am brave for the ancestors in me who couldn’t speak when they lived, whose voices caught in their throats and trembled when the sound escaped their lips
Who were forced into silence and were expected to be compliant
At the horrific moments that ripped their innocence from them
I am a cycle breaker
One of many who my ancestors prayed for, I keep the loving lonely ones alive in my cells
I share the beating heart in my chest, I give them space to breathe and rest.
Space to breathe and rest.
I am a cycle breaker
I will watch the chaos of the storm
And let it all pass through me, leaving
Droplets of reassurance and thoughtfulness
I am a cycle breaker
Earth and water and blood coursing through
Fire lighting the way on the radiant path
Air is the holy breath
In and out and all around
