It was when the raven touched down
I felt the ground shake
it was when the crow sang out her message
in a crow's language
I felt the earth rumble
It was when the waves crashed on the sand
I felt the earth tremble
It was all the sounds and sensations
pointing to change
pointing to a way to rearrange
and a chance to escape
what seems inevitable
the birds touch down
they pause with their talons holding onto branches
in that liminal moment
where one world has not dissolved yet
and the new one has not surfaced
has not materialized
how long will we spend in this limbo?
how long will the animals point the way
all of the tree branches sending out signals
the roots of the trees sending out signals
this home planet twirling in slow motion around a
bright and proud star
but this sun is not permanent
and we are still in limbo
we are still liminal
how long will we cast shadows?
how long will we make footprints on the sand
on the soil
how long will our souls endure the torment
before giving out
something has to give
who or what will it be?
