miracle, a short fiction piece

All of a sudden, falling from the sky, was not rain but a profound sense of duty. It fell into the hearts of all who were alive on the planet.
As this call of duty was felt, numerous ills began to evaporate from the atmosphere. People took care of business. There were types of suffering, violence and impoverishment that seemed like staples. They seemed as if they would always be there. Yet, increasingly, miraculously as they answered these calls of duty one by one, they were cleansing their world.

At different points during this process, a person might realize the enormity of what was taking place. It would hit them and tears would stream down their face. The person would fall to the floor, sobbing with relief. The sobs turned into sighs, a smile, and finally a laugh. Soon, the person would be laughing as they had never laughed before. And then, they got back to work. All that they touched began to be rid of impurities. The changes were happening almost effortlessly.

The majority of the people had wished and dreamed for these changes. They had longed for them, they had prayed. Now that it was happening, there was no telling what else would take place.

The people gathered, rejoiced and awaited further instructions.
